This is where we have been indexing obituaries in the Iron County Reporter (formerly Iron River Reporter), and they currently go back to 1972. Enter last name + IronCoR, example lace+ironcor (for Iron County Reporter). It will tell the issue date of the newspaper where the obituary can be found, and the person would then have to contact the newspaper for the obituary. They are at (906) 265-9927 or news@ironcountyreporter.com. I believe they charge a $5 fee. A major advantage to this is that you can look up women by their maiden name (if it was given in the obituary!) even if you don't know the married name. The Iron County Museum also has an excellent Obituary File (contact them), but you need to know the exact last name and cannot look up women by the maiden name.
